Based in Tottenham, Ontario Fountain of Youth fitness offers varied exercise classes and individual personal training to help you achieve your wellness goals.

Class Descriptions

Yoga


Whether you are completely new to yoga or haven’t practiced in a long time this is a good place to start. This class will go over some yoga basics such as: common poses, vocabulary and pose variations. Pose variations are important to learn because it allows you to grow in your practice. With these you can try different classes and use these options according to your personal level. Class ends with relaxing stretches and a short meditation.

Yin yoga is a slower style of yoga, as opposed to the common “yang” styles that involve quicker and vigorous such as vinyasa. Yin yoga helps you stretch and lengthen those rarely-used tissues while also teaching you how to breathe through discomfort and sit with your thoughts. Poses can last anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes. This class is labelled as grounded because there will be no flow or standing involved. All poses will be from the seated or supine position. Therefore props are highly recommended, blocks and yoga balls are provided. It is recommended to bring your own yoga blanket or bolster. Class ends with a 15-20 minute partly guided meditation. * ALL LEVELS WELCOME*

This class will focus on specific muscle groups working up to a peak pose. In between poses we will flow through optional vinyasa flows. Vinyasa Flow, or sometimes just called the Vinyasa, is a short sequence of poses - Plank, Chaturanga, Upward-Facing Dog, Downward Dog - that are part of the sun salutations. Class will wind down with grounded poses and soothing stretches. Our sessions always ending in a comfortable and peaceful Savasana. This class WELCOMES ALL LEVELS but would recommend trying a beginner class if you are trying yoga for the first time.

This class starts with some light poses and vinyasa flows. The bulk of the class will be preparing students for experimental and somewhat challenging poses such as handstands and splits. These classes give students the opportunity to challenge themselves and practice fun poses safely. You may be delighted and surprised by what your body can learn how to do, this classes WELCOMES ADVANCED AND INTERMEDIATE LEVELS

This class focuses on hip and heart opening poses. In these areas we tend to hold a lot of tension, so it’s important to release it. Hip openers are not just targeting hips but all the muscles attached or involved with such as hamstrings, calves, and thighs. These poses also strengthen the thighs, knees, and ankles and stretches the back of the leg, the front thigh and groin area. Same goes for heart opening poses. They help strengthen the muscles in the back of your body while stretching the muscles in your chest, shoulders, abdomen and more. This class can feel very intense, it may leave you feeling like you’re in a whole new body! WELCOME TO ALL LEVELS INCLUDING BEGINNERS


Fitness


LICT is a style of workout performed with different stations or exercises based on strength training. You will travel around each station with a small break in between until finishing the total circuit. This sequence can be repeated up to 4-5 times. This class is a majority of bodyweight exercises and involves no jumping, making it low impact. Each station may involve different props for a unique style of training. ALL LEVELS WELCOME

HIIT meaning high intensity interval training is the best all around workout. This is because it doesn’t target any specific muscle group, it is a cardio forward total body workout. This type of training involves intense work periods that are performed at 80% to 95% of a person’s estimated maximum heart rate. The workout involves alternating between exercise and recovery periods. ALL LEVELS WELCOME


Mindfulness


Be led through a snow covered forest amongst the sounds of trees crackling. Find mindfulness in nature by focussing on our breath and observing sensations within and around us. SNOW DEPENDENT & LIMITED AVAILABITY (up to 4 people in a group. Winter boots mandatory no boots below the ankles permitted.

Meet Mel

Melissa Houston is a passionate advocate for healthy and sustainable living. Immediately after completing her Registered Yoga Teacher Training in Hawaii in 2016, she knew she wanted to build a community centered around mental and physical health. Upon completion of her Diploma in Business she wanted to further her knowledge of physical health through a Personal Training Certification (FitChicks). Beyond her knowledge of physical and mental health, Melissa has many passions. She considers herself a lifelong world traveler, is enthusiastic about creating tie-dye clothing designs and practices sustainable cooking.

COVID RELATED INFORMATION

  • Gym equipment sanitized after each client

  • Daily thorough cleaning of the gym

  • Maximum of 10 people in group classes (or per covid regulations)

  • If indoor classes are restricted, program classes will be offered online or taken outdoors

  • If classes are restricted completely, the program will be extended to a later date or offered online

  • Masks to be worn by all staff

  • Adequate distance will be maintained per activities

HEALTH AND PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS

  • If you have an existing injury please consult your physician before registering

  • Please mention any health related concerns prior to beginning the 12 week program

MATERIALS NEEDED

  • Bring your own yoga mat to group classes

  • Running shoes

  • If your forget anything, the studio always has extras!
